Varla Eagle One Pro Review

Among Varla scooters, Eagle One Pro is the most expensive one. But it is also the most advanced scooter on their lineup.

I have tested both scooters – Eagle One and Eagle One Pro. Based on my experience, the Pro version has a bigger battery, longer range, and better hill-climbing ability. Also, the new model has bigger tires.

On the other hand, Eagle One Pro has a longer charging time and it is much heavier than other Varla scooters.

Varla Eagle One Pro Performance

Motor and Speed

The Varla Eagle One Pro electric scooter has a powerful dual-motor system. Each motor has 1,000 watts of power and they are controlled by 2x30A speed controllers that maintain optimal performance.

The motors are located in the hub of each wheel and provide 36 Nm of torque, allowing the scooter to reach high speeds and easily tackle steep hills and rough terrain.

The Varla Eagle One Pro electric scooter has a top speed of 45+ mph, according to the manufacturer’s specifications. This means that the scooter can reach these speeds under the right conditions.

Igor from Noblex Tech shares valuable insights about the Varla Eagle One Pro’s motor and speed, emphasizing its impressive performance.

This motor configuration might seem modest compared to some scooters in the same price range, but Igor highlights its significant torque and speed advantages.

He particularly notes the scooter’s ability to generate more power and faster acceleration than many 52-volt scooters, making it a strong competitor in its category.

The Eagle One Pro’s motor setup not only delivers exhilarating speed but also maintains a stable and responsive ride, a factor that Igor finds noteworthy in his thorough evaluation.

Thanks to the high-torque motor, the scooter can easily climb inclines of 35 degrees and maintain a high level of performance even on challenging terrain.

There’s one thing I must add. If you are planning to use the scooter on public roads, please check local electric scooter laws. Since the Eagle One Pro is so powerful, there might be some restrictions and we don’t want you to have any problems with authorities.

Battery and Range

The scooter comes with a high-capacity 27 Ah 60V lithium-ion battery pack. This is a notably large battery, especially when compared to other scooters in a similar price range. Many scooters within the $2,000 price bracket often have a 52-volt battery or a 60-volt battery with lower ampere-hour ratings.

The battery pack is located in the scooter’s deck and is easily accessible with dual charging ports, reducing the charging time by half (6-7 hours).

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the scooter has a range of up to 45 miles on a single charge. However, in Igor’s testing, the scooter achieved around 39 miles using the first and second gear, which he noted was a relatively slow run.

He mentioned that the range can vary between 25 to 40 miles in the fastest gear, depending on riding style and the rider’s body weight.

Brakes

When buying an Eagle One Pro there are two types of brakes to choose from – mechanical or hydraulic.

Since the scooter has such a high top speed, I recommend hydraulic brakes.

The model Igor tested, has proper Zoom hydraulic brakes. He found that these brakes are very sharp and effective.

While Igor was impressed with the quality of the brakes, he noted a particular issue with their configuration. The scooter’s front brake is installed on the left handlebar, and the rear brake on the right handlebar, which is opposite to the standard setup on most e-bikes.

Although this can be fixed by a professional, it’s a notable aspect that buyers should be aware of.

Varla Eagle One Pro Features

Deck and Frame

The deck of the scooter is sturdy and durable and the frame is designed to withstand the rigors of daily use. The scooter’s frame is made of high-strength steel.

The deck is made of aircraft-grade aluminum and has a non-slip surface to provide a secure and stable platform for the rider.

The scooter is well-constructed and designed to provide a reliable and comfortable ride. However, it is one heavy beast. The scooter weighs 90 lbs, so you definitely don’t want to carry it. On the other hand, it provides a nice payload capacity of 330 lbs.

Suspensions

Varla equipped their Eagle One Pro with an independent hydraulic suspension system that helps absorb shocks and vibrations, providing a smooth and comfortable ride.

Igor was impressed with the quality of the suspension on the Varla Eagle One Pro. He described it as “really good,” acknowledging its ability to provide a comfortable and stable ride.

An important feature Igor highlighted was the adjustability of the suspension. He mentioned that the suspension travel is a bit restricted but still very functional. The scooter allows riders to adjust the suspension’s stiffness to their preference, offering a significant degree of customization.

Additionally, Igor noted the nice damping quality of the suspension, contributing to a smooth and comfortable ride. This aspect of the suspension system was particularly appreciated for its ability to absorb shocks and enhance overall ride stability.

NFC Card Safety Lock

NFC, or Near Field Communication, is a technology that enables devices to communicate with each other when they are placed close together. This technology is commonly used for contactless payment transactions, access control, and data exchange.

Varla’s Eagle One Pro features an NFC card safety to prevent someone from stealing your scooter.

The lock prevents unauthorized access to an electric scooter. The rider must present a specific NFC card close to the display to unlock and start the scooter.

The lock is designed to add an extra layer of security to the scooter. It prevents the scooter from being used by unauthorized users.

Portability

Varla Eagle One Pro is a huge electric scooter. However, it’s lighter than many other beast scooters.

So compared with other big scooters, Eagle One Pro has better portability. But that doesn’t mean that you want to carry it for a long distance.

Eagle One Pro comes with a solid folding mechanism. Igor demonstrated to us that unfolding and folding the scooter is a straightforward process that takes about 10 seconds.

While discussing carrying the scooter, Igor mentioned the awkward positioning of the light near the footrest, which makes it uncomfortable to lift the scooter by the footrest. He showed how to lift and carry the scooter despite its weight, although he noted it’s not an easy task due to its heft.

He also noted that when the scooter is folded, the display can hit the footrest. However, he suggested that rotating the display slightly can prevent this from happening.

Wheels and Tires

The scooter is equipped with large, 11-inch tires, which are significantly bigger and wider compared to standard 10-inch scooter tires. In my opinion, this size difference greatly impacts the scooter’s stability and its ability to handle various terrains.

Despite the tires being road tires and not specifically designed for off-road use, Igor observed that the Varla Eagle One Pro handles rough terrain exceptionally well. He attributed this capability to the larger size of the tires, which provides better stability and comfort on uneven surfaces.

Another key point Igor highlighted was the use of tubeless tires on the Varla Eagle One Pro. The advantage of tubeless tires is the likelihood of flats is less, compared to tires with tubes.

Lights

The headlight of the Eagle One Pro is super bright. So it’s no problem riding this scooter in the dark. The rear light is also quite bright. When the brakes are activated, the rear light starts to blink, enhancing visibility and safety during braking.

However, there’s one drawback of lighting. The scooter doesn’t have turn signals.

Ride Quality

When it comes to ride quality, there’s one secret feature that significantly improves it. The scooter has some kind of steering damper within the scooter’s steering column. I’m surprised that Varla doesn’t advertise it but it makes a substantial difference in ride quality.

Igor found the overall ride experience of the Varla Eagle One Pro to be exceptionally smooth and stable. The combination of the steering damper and the scooter’s overall build contributes to a feeling of safety and comfort during rides.

He did not observe any shaky parts or instability, which he attributed to the scooter’s solid structure and design.

Varla Eagle One vs Eagle One Pro

Both scooters have dual motors with the same wattage. However, the pro model has a higher top speed and can climb steeper hills. Also, the Pro has a better range thanks to the significantly bigger battery.

On the other hand, it takes much longer to recharge the battery of Eagle One Pro. Also, the pro model is much heavier than the non-pro version.

Although the Eagle One is lighter and smaller, it has wider handlebars than the Eagle One Pro.

My honest opinion is that Eagle One Pro does not provide enough added value that justifies the extra price. For me, paying an extra $500-600 to get 5 mph better top speed and 5 miles better range is not worth it. I would prefer the original Eagle One or Eagle One V2.0.
